Tungsten is a hard, dense, gray white to gray-blue transition metal that is extracted from several minerals, mainly wolframite and scheelite. Here’s an overview of the tungsten manufacturing process:

Step 1: Mining

Tungsten is typically mined from open-pit or underground mines. The ore is extracted and transported to a processing plant.

Step 2: Crushing and Grinding

The ore is crushed and ground into a fine powder to release the tungsten minerals.

Step 3: Flotation

The powdered ore is mixed with water and surfactants, and then subjected to flotation. This process separates the tungsten minerals from the gangue (waste rock).

Step 4: Magnetic Separation

The flotation concentrate is then passed through a magnetic separator to remove any iron or other magnetic impurities.

Step 5: Chemical Treatment

The non-magnetic fraction is then treated with chemicals to remove any remaining impurities.

Step 6: Smelting

The purified tungsten concentrate is then smelted in an electric arc furnace at high temperatures (around 2500°C) to produce tungsten oxide.

Step 7: Reduction

The tungsten oxide is then reduced with hydrogen or carbon to produce pure tungsten powder.

Step 8: Consolidation

The tungsten powder is then consolidated through various methods, such as:

  • Powder metallurgy: The powder is pressed and sintered to form a solid compact.
  • Electron beam melting: The powder is melted and formed into a solid ingot using an electron beam.
  • Arc melting: The powder is melted and formed into a solid ingot using an electric arc.

Step 9: Forging and Machining

The consolidated tungsten is then forged and machined into various shapes and forms, such as rods, wires, and sheets.

Step 10: Quality Control

Finally, our quality control team thoroughly inspects the final products to ensure they meet the required specifications.
